“These are only plants!” shouts Batman. He punches the fern.

His fist sinks into the ferns, and he yanks the plant apart.

The fern chomps Batman’s shoulder from behind. Its leaves don’t break through Batman’s cape or costume, but the bite stings.

“That hurt,” growls Batman. He kicks the fern, smashing its stems.

Fiddleheads wrap around Batman’s ankle. The ferns bind his leg, dragging him into the bushes, where the bigger stems tie his body. In seconds, he can’t struggle anymore.

Poison Ivy peers down at Batman. “So ferns are stronger than bats,” she says, and leaves him lying there.

Batman listens to the creak of the pine trees for hours before he’s rescued.
